By gaining Independence what we did was swap half-decent people with a bunch of thugs. Ergo, anything good we have in our rule book must be credited to the British.
If we left town planning to Indians, the planner would have only 2 plots. Mine and mine. But thanks to the gorey, we now have a plan that demarcates areas intellegently. It has parks, schools, religious sites. It also has a plot reserved for entertainment.
That slot had been occupied by Nandini cinema here in our locality. And after years of providing low-cost entertainment, it reached the end and was now being demolished.
I looked at the hectic activity and wondered what will come up in its place. A multiplex inside a mall maybe.
And when something did come up, it was no joy for me.
It was a school. Another school. [opposite Aditya Hotel, Mahalakshmipuram]
But isn't the area marked for entertainment.
But who cares. Well, there were a few. A couple of lawyers. Who filed an RTI request.
RTI -Right to Information is a shitty law introduced a couple of decades ago. It's so complicated that very few lawyers themselves get a grasp of it and those who do, call themselves RTI activists. It is a tool only used to bulldoze moneyed people into submission.
Not surprisingly, the RTI cases were withdrawn. I don't think it was a change of heart that brought about this.
Anyways, the school opened and was soon packed. The new owners were Telugus with their bags of money. Then came the pandemic. I was walking down the road Dec 2020 when I see this group of people shouting their lungs out - In India, u can never protest silent. That's not happening. They were parents protesting the fees hike. This school deemed it fit to raise fees in the middle of the pandemic. Despite not working since March 2020 and no chance of opening in the near future.
